The Nautical Collection is a series of decorative lighting and sculptural objects. Copper and steel are fabricated to create cage forms that encapsulate blown glass pieces. The glass used is recycled Dartington 24% crystal.

 

The work is inspired by coastal elements of traditional glass buoys, sea defences, crab and lobster nets. Dorset Jurassic coast is the main visual influence. Drawings are the first stages of my design work to capture ideas, then prototyped through polypropylene plastic.

 

The three ranges in the collection are Nautical Lamp, Bubble Cage and Steel Cage. The Bubble Cage involves an unorthodox process of blowing glass into a copper cage structure, to fuse both materials that create a billowed bubble form. Other processes involved with the production are hand copper riveting and welding the steel frames.
